Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Quiza ("we", "us") handles your personal information when you use quiza.co.za. We are committed to protecting your privacy in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Who we are

Quiza is a daily quiz platform. If you have any questions about your data, contact us at play.quiza@gmail.com.

What we collect

• If you log in: the username and mobile number you provide.
• If you win a prize: your full name and South African ID number (or passport number), which we ask for only when you claim.
• Your quiz scores and which daily quizzes you played.
• Reminder-SMS preference: whether you opted in to receive occasional reminder messages (this is a separate, optional choice at login).
• Anonymous usage data (via Google Analytics), which uses cookies to measure how the site is used.
• If you play as a guest: we collect no personal information — your results stay on your own device.

Why we collect it

• Username and score — to run and display the daily and weekly leaderboards.
• Mobile number — to verify you are a real player (via a one-time SMS code), to identify your leaderboard entry, and to contact you and deliver your voucher by SMS if you are a weekly winner. Your number is never shown to other players.
• Name and ID number (winners only) — to confirm a winner's identity and eligibility, to keep a record of prize winners, and to ensure each person only enters and wins using one mobile number. It is kept securely, never shown to other players, and never used for marketing.
• Reminder SMS (only if you opt in) — if, and only if, you tick the optional box at login, we may send you occasional SMS messages letting you know when a new quiz or competition is live. This is separate from the codes and winner messages above. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any such message, or by asking us to remove you. We never send these to players who did not opt in.
• Analytics — to understand how the quiz is used and to improve it.

Our legal basis

We process your username and mobile number on the basis of your consent, which you give when you log in. Reminder SMS are sent only where you have given separate, specific opt-in consent for direct marketing, as required by the Protection of Personal Information Act; every such message includes an easy opt-out (reply STOP). You can withdraw any consent at any time by opting out or by asking us to delete your data (see "Your rights").

How we store and protect it

Your data is stored securely with our database provider. Mobile numbers are held privately and are never exposed publicly or shared with other users — the leaderboard only ever displays usernames and scores.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. We may contact prize winners directly using the mobile number provided. We use trusted service providers (such as our hosting, database and analytics providers) purely to operate the site.

How long we keep it

We keep leaderboard and account data for as long as needed to run the quizzes and competitions. You can ask us to delete your data at any time, and we remove information we no longer need.

Cookies

We use Google Analytics cookies to collect anonymous statistics about how the site is used. These do not identify you personally. You can block cookies in your browser settings.

Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to object to its processing. To exercise any of these, email play.quiza@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Children

Quiza can be enjoyed by players of all ages. However, you must be 18 or older (or have the consent of a parent or guardian) to take part in prize competitions. If you believe a child has given us personal information without consent, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top shows when it was last revised.
